Glimpse (Zellie Wells #1) by Stacey Wallace Benefiel

Zellie Wells has a devastating crush on Avery Adams, the son of her mom’s high school sweetheart. At her sixteenth birthday party, held in the basement of her dad’s church, she finally finds the courage to talk to him. Turns out, the devastating crush is mutual.

As Avery takes her hand and leads her out onto the makeshift dance floor, Zellie is overwhelmed by her first vision of his death; shocking because not only are they both covered in his blood, but they’re old, like thirty-five, and she is pregnant.

Afraid to tell anyone about the vision, (she’d just be labeled a freaky black magic witch, right?) Zellie keeps the knowledge of Avery’s future to herself and tries to act like any other teenager in love. When they get caught on their way to a secret rendezvous by her mom and his dad, they are forbidden to see each other.
Convinced that their parents are freaking out unnecessarily, Avery and Zellie vow to be together no matter what. They continue their relationship in secret until Zellie learns that their parents are just trying to prevent her and Avery from suffering like they did. The visions are hereditary, they’re dangerous, and if they stay together the visions will come true.

Now Zellie must choose between severing all ties with Avery, like her mom did to prevent his father’s death, and finding a way to change Avery’s future.

THE ZELLIE WELLS SERIES READING ORDER:

Glimpse was one of the books I've received from amazon for free. I believe it is still set at $0.00c - So I'd go and get it now if I were you.

This is a very YA Romance which adds a touch of paranormal into it. Well, no, I lie... not a touch - the entire story focuses around the paranormal however, it focuses equally as much around the romance between Zellie & Avery. This book balances both of those genres perfectly - which I loved about this book BTW.

I seriously enjoyed this book. It was slightly too Young Adult for me - but I can't fault it at all for that - I knew this before going into it. What I was surprised to find however, was that I didn't miss any of the usual Adult situations which is enough to tell you that even as an adult who prefers adult romances, Glimpse still gives you an awesome experience.

Now the only problem I did find is about the blurb for this book.

First off, after I read it to get a recap while I was scouting my next read... the blurb - without a doubt - made me very, very attracted to this book.

The summary also gives us a very in-depth looksee into the main topic of Glimpse. So whats the problem?

Well... as awesome as the blurb is... it's also pretty much the just of the entire book. It was disappointing to find that out and as I read along I was going 'yes... I know that... yes... that too... move onto the the part I didn't know...' Well... there ain't none! If you've read the summary at the top of this page... that's what you gonna be reading about. Yes, there are little bits in-between... no they add no real depth to the tale... so now my question is WHY? Why place a summary of the book as the blurb... instead of a teaser? I read the blurb and it got me so hooked, I was sure this was going to be an epic read. I mean if the summary is that good then imagine what's inside... Nope! #Fail

But don't be mistaken. Glimpse is a good book. It's fun and quirky. I loved Zellie. I adored the banter she passes in her head and verbally. I thought that author Stacey Wallace Benefiel really created a clone of a 16 year old teenage girl to perfection. Evan Avery was great. I loved the way in which this book was easy to read. I know its YA so it kind of does need to be fairly simply written... but come on... sometimes it's just kind of nice and refreshing to have words in front of you that you don't need to pull your hair out of your head to try and decipher. But with that said - it doesn't mean Glimpse is written in a lower grade English. It's perfect really. Ideal for Young Adults and Adults alike.

Now I have yet to move on with this series and I will... but I think right now, I just read to pump some sexy smut back into my blood...:)

2 Readers Had Something To Say About This:

  1. Great review and this one looks great as well. I am always looking for some great reads in the romance world. I would say to check out Jody Summers, Dark Canvas is her book. It's a paranormal romance but not about vampires and werewolves or anything like that. It's really fantastic, it was recommended to me otherwise I might have not gotten to read it! www.darkcanvas.net for it's info. It's really a great read.
