ABOUT THIS BOOK

Release Date:
31 January 2012

Series / Stand Alone:
Stand Alone

My Rating For This Book:
5 Stars (It is / was actually one of my favorite books of 2012)

Synopsis:

This is a story about sacrifice... death... love... freedom. This is a story about forever. Haven Antonelli and Carmine DeMarco had vastly different childhoods. Haven, a second-generation slave, grew up isolated in the middle of the desert, her days full of hard work and terrifying abuse. Carmine, born into a wealthy Mafia family, lived a life of privilege, never having to answer for anything he did.

Both now seventeen, a twist of fate causes their worlds to collide, making them question everything they ever believed. Entangled in a web of secrets and lies, they learn that while different on the surface, they have more in common than anyone would think.

In a world full of chaos, where money and power rule, Haven and Carmine yearn to break free, but a string of events that started before either were born threatens to destroy them instead. Murder and betrayal are a way of life, and nothing comes without a price-- especially not freedom. How much will they have to sacrifice? Can they escape their pasts? And, most of all, what does it mean to be free? Not everything is as it seems, and no one can possibly come out unscathed, but maybe, just maybe, it’ll be worth it in the end.

Sempre (Forever)

Sempre is one of my all time favorite books. It didn't go that route when I first started it, I must say. In the beginning, I thought... "What the hell is this crap?" and then... I put it down and started something else. Why? Because when this book begins... it's dark and... uncomfortable. It definitely breaches into territory that we all know about... but refuse to acknowledge or speak of. When Sempre begins, it's about Human Trafficking (but the so real, so painful side of it)...it's strange and it draws out very real emotions from you. At first it was to much for me to digest... so I put it down and moved on. Somewhere along the line, I came across a review where they spoke about this book and, in short, they said... push through the beginning... so I diligently did. When I finished the book (which turned out to be one sitting)... I went back to the beginning and reread it... found it was actually an amazing part to the tale and very, very crucial that it was included the way it was done... because essentially it preps the canvas for the entire book and helps you to fully understand the relationship and troubles that happen between Carmine and Haven.

“He ran the back of his fingers along her flushed cheek. His touch was soft, and she leaned her head in his direction. “My beautiful girl,” he said.
She took in his expression. “You think I’m beautiful?”
“I don’t think you’re beautiful, Haven,” he said. “I know you are.”

So... for my Sharing is Caring post, I'm recapping Sempre by J.M. Darhower. It's a brilliant book and most definitely leaves it's mark in your heart. It's not at all a pink-icing-and-sprinkles-on-the-top kind of romance novel. It's emotional, it's scary and it's very overwhelming.

But a to-die-for read, if you find yourself looking for a new favorite.

I gave this book a 2012 Fav label and it will remain there and in my heart for years to come.

While I'm writing this post, I'm actually thinking it would do me well to give it another go... Since it's definitely time well spent.

When I saw this post on J.M. Darhower's website, I nearly choked on my coffee. I'm so, so happy there's going to be more to Carmine and Haven. My heart fluttered and I began to sweat with anticipation. I've not been this excited in a long, long time :)
